The recently concluded Edves Catalyst Conference themed ‘Audacious’ , saw over 4,000 School Leaders, Educators, Parents and Stakeholders in education both online and onsite at the Landmark events centre in Lagos.

Apart  from being one of the largest edtech gatherings in West Africa, this event was packed with so much value: from learning about PhET simulations to panel discussions on how education can be improved in Africa audaciously and through the use of technology.

The Edves Catalyst also hosted the grand finale of the Edves STEM Competition where students of various schools were made to create solutions to world problems based on the 17 SDGs and were judged based on 7 rubrics after submitting a video of what their project is about. Some of the rubrics were: Guidelines Check, Teamwork, Focus and Clarity.

5 final groups were selected after going through the group stages. They came up with innovative ideas and some even used recycled products around them to create their project model. The names of the projects were: Smart Traffic Light, Tri-powered Electric Power Generator, Smart Home, Make More Noise and more. During the event each team made a presentation about the problems they want to solve, the solutions they have come up with and the benefits it has.

Eventually, The Energizers Group emerged the winners of the grand prize ; 1 million Naira after wowing the audience and judges alike with their project, In 2nd place was Team Smarters who went home with a whopping sum of 500,000 naira and third placed  Team Noise Transformers  who won 300,000 naira.

Congratulations to all the teams who participated whether declared winners or not. We can see that Africa has a lot of talent and Edves would continue to make efforts to make sure they are seen and encouraged to do more.
